Tissot, the biggest traditional Swiss watch brand in volume, has agreed this year again to be the Official Timekeeper of Switzerland’s Tour de Romandie. This prestigious annual stage race, first run in 1947, is part of the International Cycling Union (UCI) ProTour and takes place in the Romandie, the French-speaking part of Switzerland. It is a matching addition to an impressive track record of cycling timekeeping by Tissot, a partner of the UCI since 1996.
High-tech timing technology
The 2011 Tour de Romandie will take place from 26 April to 1 May and provide an excellent platform for the Swiss brand to demonstrate its timekeeping and data handling expertise to an international audience from within its home territory. Riders face the challenges of time trials in Martigny, as well as four other stages taking in the gradients of the Jura Mountains and the Alps. This varied programme enables Tissot to demonstrate high-tech timing technology specifically developed for cycling, as well as its broad experience of sports timekeeping gained from diverse disciplines ranging from MotoGP to basketball.
An impressive cycling portfolioWithin its UCI partnership, this year Tissot will be Official Timekeeper for the World Championships of road, track and mountain bike cycling, as well as the World Cup Classics track series. Commenting on this partnership François Thiébaud, President of Tissot remarks: “The Tour de Romandie provides both individual and team spirit. The same philosophy we share at Tissot worldwide.”
